Dead Ghost- O Fantasma Do Garage Rock #Tunestday #Rock

Damn, do we love us some Dead Ghosts! Their 2010 debut LP from Florida’s Dying Records still makes its way to our turntables monthly! Why do we mention this you ask? Well, the 4-piece from Vancouver are gearing up for their sophomore record, ‘Can’t Get No,’ dropping on April 30th via one of our favorite labels out there, Burger Records. The first taste from the LP has come just in time for Valentine’s day via MTV Hive (of all the places). So give a whirl to the band’s first single, ‘Roky Said,’ below and get ready for a vinyl pre-order from Burger in the near future, including some limited wax pressings… While ‘yer at it, also check out a few key tracks from their debut with the free downloads of ‘When It Comes To You’ and ‘Getting Older.’ The LP is currently out-of-print, but there should be a repressing via Florida’s Dying around the time ‘Can’t Get No’ drops in April. Splassh- A Nova Força Do Garage Rock #Tunesday #Rock

Não deve ser confundido com a banda de R & B com um nome similar vindo da Austrália-via-UK quarteto Splashh , formado no início de 2012 e tem a data de lançamento de três singles pop do bom garage rock  ("All I Wanna Do" é a favorita de alguns ). Seu som distorcido , pode lembrar algumas  bandas da Califórnia certo com um nome surfy, mas Splashh tem em  seu som influencias indie britânica como New Order, The Wedding Present e  bandas shoegazers dos anos 90  como o Boo Radley.

Splassh está prestes a splashdown na América do Norte, primeiro no SXSW e depois em turnê com Generationals de Nova Orleans. Essa turnê começa em Bowery Ballroom em 22 de abril





Not to be confused with Brooklyn's new age R&B band with a similar name, Australia-via-UK quartet Splashh (that's two Hs) formed in early 2012 and have to date released three singles of sunny garage pop. ("All I Wanna Do" is my favorite.) Their warbly, overdriven and sneery sound may remind some of a certain California band with a surfy name, but Splashh embue their sound with some UK indie lineage like New Order, The Wedding Present and '90s shoegazers The Boo Radleys. You can stream a few of their 7"s below.
Splassh are about to splashdown in North America, first at SXSW and then on tour with New Orleans' Generationals. That tour hits Bowery Ballroom on April 22 and tickets are currently on AmEx presale with the regular on-sale happening Friday (2/15) at noo

Kylesa- New Album And New Songs "Ultraviolet" #Metal

"Considerando que 'Shadow Espiral' foi um álbum ÓTIMO  sugerindo conceitos de esperança," Ultravioleta "é um pouco mais frio e mais escuro", explica o compositor / guitarra Laura. "Todos os nossos álbuns de estúdio têm a sua própria identidade e sempre fomos uma banda que se esforça para algo diferente do que modismos atuais sugerem. Com 'Ultravioleta', que deu um passo para frente  eu escrevi músicas que nós sentimos que tínhamos que escrever; estes álbum em torno de vários temas de perda e você pode sentir isso na música. Kylesa gravou  'Ultravioleta' na Sala Jam em Columbia, Carolina do Sul com o  guitarrista e  compositor e produtor  Phillip Cope (Baroness, Black Tusk) mais uma vez supervisionou a produção.



O álbum de estúdio mais recente, 'Shadow Espiral', teve a mairo repercussão no Village Voice de 2010 Pazz & enquete álbum , liderada a lista Pitchfork (foi lá que conheci eles e uma pancada de bandas novas como High On Fire,Nathcmystium e Watain e que me influencioua criar este blog ) a dizer "Kylesa seria um nome familiar" após o lançamento e ser a capa da Terrorizer, bem como  elogios da metal Hammer.   Em 2011, tornou-se o Kylesa primeira banda de metal a realizar na última chamada com Carson Daly.

Kylesa vai voltar para a estrada em maio, com mais detalhes próximas.

 KYLESA have announced the title and release date of their forthcoming album. One of the most anticipated hard rock releases of 2013 and the follow-up to their critically-acclaimed album ‘Spiral Shadow’, 'Ultraviolet' will hit the stores on 24th (May 28th in North America).

“Whereas ‘Spiral Shadow’ was a warm album suggesting concepts of hope, ‘Ultraviolet’ is a bit colder and darker”, explains songwriter/guitar player Laura Pleasants. “All of our studio albums have their own unique identity and we've always been a band who strives for something different than what current fads suggest. With ‘Ultraviolet’, we took a step inward and wrote music that we felt we had to write; this album centers around the multiple themes of loss and you can feel it in the music. Everyone goes through it during their lifetime and this record reflects that experience”.

KYLESA recorded 'Ultraviolet' at The Jam Room in Columbia, South Carolina with the band's guitar player/songwriter and sought-after producer, Phillip Cope (BARONESS, BLACK TUSK) once again overseeing production.

KYLESA released a rarities collection in November titled ‘From The Vaults, Vol. 1’, which featured unreleased, new and alternate versions of songs spanning the band's catalog as well as one new song titled "End Truth." Cope and Pleasants spent over a year going through their archives preparing the release.

The band's most recent studio album, ‘Spiral Shadow’, had the highest metal/hard rock entry on the Village Voice's 2010 Pazz & Jop album poll, led Pitchfork to say "KYLESA would be a household name" following the release and landed the band on the cover of Terrorizer as well as album of the month accolades from Metal Hammer, Rock Sound and Visions Magazines. In 2011, KYLESA became the first metal band to perform on Last Call with Carson Daly.

Protest To Hero -Interwiew And Crowd Funded #Metal

 

To say that Protest the Hero’s $341,000 crowd-funded Indiegogo campaign exceeded all expectations would be a gross understatement. Not only did it shockingly please us and fellow PtH fans the world over, but the brass at Indiegogo took notice — it’s the second biggest campaign ever on their platform — and Protest guitar Tim Millar told me in the below interview that the band’s manager’s phone was suddenly ringing off the hook with calls froms interested record labels. When I caught up with Tim by phone last week he told me all about the campaign; how the idea came about, how they feel about the overwhelming support, how the finances will work, what the band plans to do with their excess cash, when to expect the finished album and more. 

What are you up to right now, are you writing? Already started recording?
Pretty much just finishing up writing, rehearsing and getting ready to go into the studio. We have a studio start date of March 17, which is about a month away. We’re just trying to get our asses into gear and make sure we’re ready to track.

Do you feel you got away from writing songs in the past? Or is that something abstract that you’re trying to do this time around?
In the past, from the start we’d always write part, part, part, part and fit them all together. It helped us find who we are and our sound. But at the same time, sometimes we’d spend a lot of time writing ten seconds of a song and then it comes and goes and you never go back to it. We were trying to find a way to re-invent the same part and keep a theme within a song. Where sometimes you get all over the place and can’t even get back to where you started because you’re so far from where that is only halfway through the song.

So when you started this Indiegogo project, what were your expectations?
We just wanted to meet our goal, to be able to go into the studio and not compromise what we had done in the past. To make another album that we’re proud of. We set our goal, and it took us a while to come up with that number. We were pretty confident that people would just look at that number and not even support us and think it was ridiculous. But that’s what we’ve spent in the past and that’s what it has taken to do another record. So we said we might as well give this a shot. We posted it, “Here goes nothing.” It was pretty astonishing how quick the response was. We just wanted to have funds to make another record.

Do you have some of those distro deals already in place?
No, it’s all been just talks. It was funny. Once record labels see the success of the campaign, our manager’s phone is ringing off the hook. It’s interesting, or at least it’s a statistic that the industry can look at. It creates interest in that side of the industry as well.

Where there any surprises about where people were giving from?
The most surprising are the places you’ve never been. When you’re selling albums in Singapore, and you have one sale in Guam. It’s fun to see. One record going to Gibraltar. Just seeing where everything is going to end up. Why haven’t we ever gone there if there’s this many people interested, right?

You go into the studio March 17. How long are you going to be in there? What does the timeline look like after that?
If everything goes as planned, the album should be out the first or second week of September. Touring would start a couple of weeks before that. That’s the plan. We’ll spend about two months in the studio, and whatever else it takes to get everything done. The release date is tentative — we’ve been bad in the past with meeting deadlines — but we think we’re giving ourselves enough time to get it done. Come fall we’ll have a new album, and we’ll be touring to support everything and do another album cycle.

Não supresa para outros fãs de PTH de todo o mundo, mas a cúpula da IndieGoGo tomou conhecimento - é a maior campanha  em sua plataforma -  guitarra Tim Millar na entrevista abaixo que o telefone do empresário da banda não parava de tocar com  gravadoras interessadas em gravar a banda.  Tim no telefone na semana passada,  me contou tudo sobre a campanha; como a idéia surgiu, como eles se sentem sobre o esmagador apoio, como vai funcionar as finanças , o que a banda pretende fazer com o seu excesso de caixa, quando esperar que o álbum estiver pronto e muito mais.

O que você vai fazer agora, que você está escrevendo? Já começou a gravação?

Praticamente  terminando de escrever, ensaiando e se preparando para entrar em estúdio. Nós temos uma data de início de estúdio de 17 de março, que é de cerca de um mês . Estamos apenas prontos para acompanhar.

 

Você sente que você se afastou de escrever canções no passado? Ou isso é algo abstrato que você está tentando fazer desta vez?

No passado, desde o início nós sempre escrevemo  parte por parte e colcaca-lo todo tempo juntos. Ele nos ajudou a encontrar o que somos e nosso som. Mas, ao mesmo tempo, às vezes nós gastamos muito tempo escrevendo dez segundos de uma música e então ela vem e vai e você nunca mais voltar a ele. Nós estávamos tentando encontrar uma maneira de reinventar parte do mesmo e manter um tema dentro de uma música. Onde às vezes você tem em todo o lugar e não pode nem voltar para onde você começou porque você está tão longe de onde isso é só no meio da música.

Nós só queríamos atingir nossa meta, para poder ir para o estúdio e não comprometer o que tínhamos feito no passado. Para fazer um outro álbum que nós temos orgulho. Montamos o nosso objetivo, e levou um tempo para chegar a esse número. Nós estávamos muito confiantes de que as pessoas simplesmente olhavamos como nos apoiar e acho que foi ridículo. Mas isso é o que nós passamos no passado e isso é o que tem levado a fazer outro disco. Então nós dissemos que poderia muito bem. Nós postou: "Aqui vai nada." Foi muito surpreendente o quão rápido a resposta foi. Nós só queriamos ter fundos para fazer outro registro.

 

Você tem algumas dessas ofertas distro já em vigor?

Não, isso tudo foi apenas conversas. Foi engraçado. Uma vez que as gravadoras tem  o sucesso da campanha, aque o telefone do nosso gerente de telefone está fora do gancho. É interessante, ou pelo menos é uma estatística que a indústria pode olhar. Ele cria interesse em que lado da indústria também.

 

Onde há nenhuma surpresa sobre onde as pessoas ?

O mais surpreendente são os lugares que você nunca esteve. Quando você está vendendo álbuns em Cingapura por exemplloo. É divertido de ver. Um album que vai a Gibraltar. Basta ver onde tudo vai acabar. Por que não temos ido sempre lá, se há tantas pessoas interessadas, certo?

 

Você vai para o estúdio em 17 de Março. Quanto tempo você vai estar lá? O que faz a linha do tempo ficar depois disso?

Se tudo correr como planejado, o álbum deve sair a primeira ou segunda semana de setembro. Iria começar um par de semanas antes. Esse é o plano. Nós vamos gastar cerca de dois meses no estúdio, e tudo o mais que é preciso para fazer . A data de lançamento é provisória - já que temos cumprimento de prazos -, mas acho que estamos nos dando tempo suficiente para fazê-lo. um novo álbum, e nós vamos  e ai vamos para a turnê
